Engineered bamboo flooring – Bamboo is a grass, bamboo flooring, and responsive to the humidity changes in substantially the same manner as hardwood. Cheaper brands of bamboo flooring with a high water content can shrink when installed in a dry climate. All bamboo flooring must be acclimatized before it is installed, the sub-floor must be dry and vapor barrier must be installed between the sub-floor and bamboo.

Engineered bamboo flooring is not really bamboo flooring. In fact, there are several different types of wood, often chipboard or other types of manufactured wood, bound together. Then a thin layer of bamboo as a veneer, but thicker, are tied to the beginning of the wood. While all bamboo flooring is essentially built from scratch with bamboo fibers, engineered versions are only partially bamboo and many other elements.

Moss bamboo is the species most often used for the manufacture of engineered bamboo flooring. The bamboo is removed, cut into thin planks and soaked in a solution of Doric acid or lime to remove sugar. The plates are then dried and planed, and can then be carbonized by steaming them to the darker color. Then, they are laminated together with other cellulose materials by means of a urea-formaldehyde glue. The laminated bamboo is so sometimes sandwiched around a core of plywood. This technique process makes engineered flooring resistant to changes in humidity.
